Definition

Well here we are again, another year, and instead of hip hop progressing we have seen an exponential decline in coherence of this, "music." The song, "Definition" performed by the venerable Mos Def and Talib Kweli is what sparked this digression of sorts. Their lyrical content is actually overly dank. It's almost impossible to memorize their lyrics without double digit listens. The music is saturated with thought, powerful statements, and insightful visions. Whether you agree with it or not, they have at least respected themselves enough not to use the phrase, "Superman that hoe" in a song. The dankness of spoken word and the Black Star movement so drastically surpasses the current hip hop nonsense. Although I am currently in the midst of a Grateful Dead phase right now, I strongly encourage the consumption of dank hip hop. For those of you that are new to the game, check out Pete Rock aka "The Creator." His 2004 release, "Soul Survivor II" is a testament that even old school heads have the versatility to make conscious music that has excellent beats and neck breaking choruses. Moral of the story: there is a reason that hip hop's largest fan base are training bra wearing, Noxema using, YM reading, Hollister rockin' high school girls. It's gaaabidge.

The traditional definition of of word DANK as defined by dictionary.com is: "unpleasantly moist or humid; damp and, often, chilly. Common associations: Basement or cellar. However, during the 1990's the exact meaning began to change as stoners and or "potheads" began to reference it with exceptional marijuana. Over time, as this seemingly small sect of society matured, those same ethos did to progress. The definition now attributed to either a righteous craft micro-brew, a killer jam, or perhaps even a serving of finely grated cheese, assorted peppers and or hot-like sauces (garnish to taste) over a bed of salt side up "original" Triscuits wheat crackers, and prepared on high power for two minutes in a conventional microwave oven ( see Triscuit Nachos).

The adverb OVERLY often associated with excess, within some circles the term does not overwhelm but excite. When OVERLY is paired with DANK the term has come to represent greatness exceeded. As if it were a country-fried steak sandwich proceeding beyond the parameters of the bun; OVERLY DANK is both striking an pleasurable (see example).

In this case the beer talked about hear is akin to more of a Miller Lite, than a perhaps a Terrapin Rye Pale Ale; which may be a little to complex to continually comprehend, but remains quite reasonable.
